Spam Prevention

Anybody who maintains a website for business or personal use will almost certainly attract large numbers of unsolicited spam emails. Not only are these messages unwanted, but they are often obscene, and can contain viruses, trojan horses, worms and other hostile programs that can damage your computer and cause problems for you and your clients.

When designing your website TannerRitchie web design can help to discourage spam by the code used in the website. There's no reason why Spambots should ever be able to find your email address for you TannerRitchie designed webpage. However methods of discouraging spam, such as hiding email addresses, can also discourage customers and clients. If you want customers to email you, then it is likely spammers will too. Unfortunately spam is a fact of life, and while you can discourage it, you cannot prevent it entirely.

Therefore, if you find spam a problem, we recommend using a program such as MailWasher Pro. It is not free, but at $37.00 USD it is eminently affordable. Its best features are as follows:

  • Deletes most spam (and also viruses and trojans that come by email) before it reaches your computer.
  • Allows you to report spam, in order that other people can filter it out.
  • Allows you to bounce error messages back to the sender, to give the impression that your email address does not exist and discourage future spam.
  • Allows you to create complex filters to identify and delete messages.
  • Creates friends lists for trusted email.
  • Makes use of public blacklists to delete known spam.
  • Identifies possible spam from the words used in emails.

We use it ourselves, and couldn't live without it! (And no, we are not getting paid for this free ad).
